Sussex Central High School in Georgetown, DE, is set to open its new building in September 2025. Cloud Gehshan Design was responsible for developing the interior and exterior wayfinding signage, and I was tasked with designing the interior signage.
As part of the interior wayfinding analysis, I supported the establishment of major destinations, stairwells, and amenities on each floor. I also created sample journey scenarios to explore how individuals might navigate the building during various events and daily activities.
I designed the signage using a transitional design approach that blends the school's traditional aesthetic with a modern twist. Much of my inspiration came from the architectural plans provided by the project’s architect. To ensure cohesion, I carefully studied the architectural plans, interior paint specifications, and SCHS Brand Guidelines. This helped me select colors that harmonize with both the signage and the school’s brand identity. Additionally, I chose typefaces for both the interior and exterior signage that align with the transitional theme while adhering to ADA signage standards.
