The Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) is a federal program that helps low-income pregnant women, infants, and young children access important food and nutrition resources. Each state runs its own WIC program to meet local needs.
Maryland WIC needed a series of educational booklets that would communicate complex nutrition information to diverse audiences, including families with limited health literacy and Spanish speakers. I designed bilingual booklets for each developmental stage covered by the program.
I used WIC's existing brand colors as a foundation, introducing a complementary palette and organic elements to create clear visual distinction between developmental stages. By implementing a mix of WIC’s existing photoshoot library and signature brand illustrations, I maximized the value of their assets while creating a cheerful, approachable aesthetic for young families.
These booklets help communicate important health information to caregivers and families across the state in a way that’s easy to understand, approachable and culturally responsive.
